The Diploma in Radiography/Sonography at Royo College of Medical and Health Sciences is a 3-year program designed to train students in diagnostic imaging techniques used in healthcare to assist in the detection, diagnosis, and treatment of medical conditions. This course provides students with hands-on experience in both radiography and sonography, enabling them to operate imaging equipment such as X-ray machines, ultrasound machines, and CT scanners, and assist healthcare professionals in patient care.
📌 Duration: 3 years (Theory + Practical Training + Clinical Attachments)
📌 Mode of Study: Classroom lectures, laboratory training, and clinical placements in hospitals and imaging centers
To be eligible for the Diploma in Radiography/Sonography, applicants must meet the following minimum KCSE requirements:
✅ Mean Grade: C (Plain) or higher
✅ English/Kiswahili: C (Plain) or higher
✅ Biology/Chemistry: C (Plain) or higher
✅ Mathematics/Physics: C- (Minus) or higher
The curriculum integrates theoretical learning with practical training and focuses on:
🩺 Introduction to Radiography and Sonography – Understanding the basic principles and techniques of imaging
💡 Radiological Anatomy and Physiology – Learning the human body's structure as seen through imaging
🔬 Medical Imaging Technology – Mastering various imaging modalities such as X-ray, ultrasound, CT scans, and MRI
📊 Radiographic Positioning and Techniques – Proper positioning of patients for effective imaging
💉 Patient Care and Safety – Ensuring patient comfort, safety, and preparation before and after imaging procedures
🩻 Radiation Safety and Protection – Minimizing radiation exposure to patients and healthcare workers
📋 Diagnostic Imaging Interpretation – Understanding the clinical relevance of different imaging results
🩺 Clinical Practice – Hands-on experience with imaging equipment and direct patient interaction
Students will complete clinical attachments in medical imaging departments of hospitals and clinics, where they will receive mentorship from experienced radiographers and sonographers.
Graduates can pursue careers as:
🏥 Radiographers – Performing diagnostic imaging procedures and supporting radiologists in interpreting images
👩⚕️ Sonographers – Specializing in ultrasound imaging to assess soft tissue, organs, and fetal health
🏢 CT/MRI Technicians – Operating CT and MRI machines for detailed imaging of the human body
🩺 X-Ray Technicians – Managing X-ray procedures to aid in diagnosing conditions like fractures and infections
💉 Medical Imaging Assistants – Supporting radiologists and healthcare professionals in diagnostic imaging settings
